Stiliyan Petrov speaks of delight at Villa awards
“We will try to finish fifth this season and I hope we can do that with the bunch of players we’ve got.”
Petrov endured a miserable first 18 months at Villa but turned his career around last March when he was brought back into the team after being dropped for five matches.
“It’s a big thing especially for me after the way my career started at Villa. It didn’t start the way a lot of people expected it to start,” he said.
“I’m glad that the fans gave me the opportunity to win this award and to have the backing of them and especially my team-mates.
“My team-mates have supported me all the way and that is great.
“When you feel part of this team it is a great honour.
“Everyone here wants to win something here and make their names in a Villa shirt. I hope we can achieve that next season and make the fans happy.”
