Stiliyan Petrov wins Aston Villa player of year award double

STILIYAN Petrov was the big winner and Ashley Young the surprise loser at Villa’s end-of-season awards dinner last night.

Bulgarian international Petrov scooped both the Players’ and the Supporters’ Player of the Year. Teenage striker Nathan Delfouneso was also a double winner after he bagged the Young Player equivalents.

John Carew’s volley against Stoke on March 1 won Goal of the Season.

Young, the PFA’s Young Player of the Year, was expected to figure in both Young Player and Goal of the Season categories.
