Curtis Davies targets Aston Villa points prize

Curtis Davies

CURTIS Davies says Aston Villa will be going all out to send Newcastle down this weekend – but not because they dislike Alan Shearer’s men.

The centre-back says Villa simply have to get the three points to enable them to beat last year’s 60 point haul and also wrestle fifth place back from Everton.

“We don’t just want to draw with last year’s total we want to beat it,” said Davies.

“That means we are going to have to beat Newcastle – not for the reason of wanting to send them down, but for our own reasons.

“They are going to be desperate, like Boro were, throwing a lot of men forward and throwing caution to the wind.

“Unfortunately for Boro it didn’t come off. They had a lot of good passages in the game but I am just happy as a defender that we managed to shut them out.”

Davies distanced himself from quotes last week that he was personally determined to keep Albion in the Premier League.

“I think I was slightly misquoted,” he said.
