Villa striker John Carew delighted with goals haul

“As long as you are happy and enjoy it then things will happen automatically.

“When you are struggling, things go the other way. It is always linked. You see big players leave one club where they were fantastic and not perform at another because they haven’t settled or they are not happy.

“I’ve definitely settled well in Birmingham. The club and fans already have a place in my heart.

“I have two years left and have not thought of anything else.”

Carew is delighted with his 15-goal haul this season.

“I’m very proud of the record,’’ he said.

“I’ve been out for three to four months and I think I could have easily reached 20 goals if I hadn’t been out for so many games.

“You can’t score all the time.

“It’s okay for a striker as long as you do a good job and create things for your team-mates.

“It will change from season to season.

“As a striker in the end you are there to finish things off and score goals. Every time it is a fantastic feeling when you see the ball go in the net.”

Carew says he feels sorry for Newcastle’s players who enter Sunday’s game under the threat of relegation.

“But I don’t really think about that. I don’t have any opinion on who should go down,” he said.

“I will feel sorry for the team that does. It is never nice to be in that situation where you have to fight to stay up.

“They will be coming here to get a result and we’ll be doing our best to win the game and finish in a great way in front of the fans at Villa Park.

“That’s where our focus is. It will be an exciting game.”
