How Aston Villa plan to kill Liverpool FC's Gareth Barry bid

ASTON VILLA will offer Gareth Barry £60,000 a week to stay at Villa Park.

That's what our man at Villa, Bill Howell, said during a live chat with Villa fans on Friday.

Find out what else was discussed - and revealed - below:

Live Aston Villa chat with Bill Howell(05/22/2009)
11:57
Steve Wollaston:  Good afternoon ladies and gents. Bill Howell our Aston Villa writer is ready, willing and able to answer all of your questions...
11:58
[Comment From Paul]
Hi Bill. I am sure everyone will want to know this but who are we after?
11:58
[Comment From Stuart]
Hi Bill, with Stan Petrov signing a new deal, does this mean Barry is staying?
11:59
Steve Wollaston:  Just waiting for Bill to join us...
12:00
Bill Howell:  Hello all. Its me. Is dinner ready?
12:00
[Comment From Wayno]
Bill - should Villa get rid of O'Neill?
12:03
Bill Howell:  Stuart, Paul...nice easy ones to start with!!!

Lets start with Barry shall we.

The club have offered him a deal worth £80,000 a week, according to a good source of mine, and a testimonial. That figure will beat anything he can pick up at Liverpool or Tottenham. The fear though is that in the next week or two the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and perhaps Manchester United - yes, I know that sounds a long shot, but don't rule them out - get interested. As things stand Barry is waiting to see what transpires. He is not happy that Liverpool don't want to play him in central midfield. That could work in Villa's favour. So in short, don't rule out Barry staying. O'Neill gets on well with both him and Michael Standing. That is absolutely true.
12:04
[Comment From DDT]
Michael Owen?
12:05
[Comment From JohnR]
Has MON lost the plot tactically. He doesn't seem to want to play the players in their correct position
12:05
[Comment From stuart]
Has martin got any replacements in mind?? Niko Kranjkar on a free?
12:05
Bill Howell:  Right, Paul, transfer targets!!!!
Changing all the while, I woudl suggest. Sturridge remains a possibility, as does Owen. There was definitely something in that Mellberg link. Looks like Hangerland off to Arsenal. The interesting thing at the minute is the amount of agents trying to flog players to Villa who they claim are absolute world beaters. The latest was a south american striker I heard of last week. Depending on the money available - which will depend on exactly who leaves - there might be some big surprises.
12:07
Bill Howell:  Get rid of O'Neill, wayno?!!!! Blimey. The answer is not at all. But there will be a lot of pressure on him to get this summer right and then to start next season well. That goes without saying. The last 15 games have been woeful. Villa, despite what the manager says, should never have tossed away the UEFA Cup. Then they threw away fourth and then fifth.
12:07
[Comment From DDT]
Another Juan Pablo?
12:08
[Comment From Wayno]
He is clueless Bill.
12:08
Bill Howell:  Michael Owen? Yes, he's a possibility. But he is likely to have a few choices. What a comedown. £15 million striker to a freebie.
12:08
[Comment From stuart]
is carew still happy at the club? because there are endless rumours he will leave?
12:09
[Comment From Davethevan]
Who would you sign Bill? Give us 5 players you would like to see at the club?
12:09
[Comment From Aleesha Smith]
Hi Bill, who do you think is the hunkiest Villa player? I think Ashley is a dreamboat!
12:10
Michael Owen.. should Villa sign him?
Yes
 ( 50% )
No
 ( 50% )

12:10
Bill Howell:  O'Neill and tactics John R? That is a very sore point with some supporters. And I'll agree Milner at right back last week was a strange one. "We wanted to get as many attacking players on the pitch at one time", is how the manager explained it. Odd. Then there's the subs, like at Fulham, taking off your full-backs and replacing them with strikers - one dropping back to midfield and another to full-back. It's the old saying, you win no arguments when you don't win games. If Villa had won at Fulham or Boro you'd not be asing me that one.
12:10
[Comment From Davethevan]
can someone tell me what sturridge has done???
12:11
[Comment From David from Harrogate]
Bill, how can you keep defending O'Neill? Tactically he is terrible and his signings have to be called into question. Will Randy get rid?
12:11
[Comment From Guppy]
I told you all before that O'Neill is not the man for the job. He's got to go
12:12
Bill Howell:  Niko Kranjkar on a free? Is he out of contract Stuart? First I'd heard of it. Who was Villa's last attacking playmaker from midfield? I can't accept Barry or Petrov as such, despite the fact they are both fine players. Merson probably. Just one of a number of postions that need looking at.
12:12
[Comment From JohnR]
Bill, the point is they didn't win therefore surely the criticisms are valid. MON answers seem a bit lame to me
12:12
[Comment From Aleesha Smith]
What are the chances of bringing Olof back? He's gorgeous with that stubble
12:12
Bill Howell:  Sisa, I would urge you to call Steve Tudgay in the summer. As you have done in the past, no doubt.
12:13
[Comment From stuart]
sorry i think he has 1 year left like barry. That is the sort of attacking midfielder we need...is martin after a "new merson"?
12:14
Bill Howell:  Another Juan Pablo DDT? Well, he produced one really fine season on 16 league goals and 23 goals in total due to his bucket load in the League Cup. Not good enough though, was he? Certainly not for £9.5 million. But then again, you could say that about so many signed before and after Juan Pablo. Lovely chap. Doing well in the States. But signed for £6 million too much. Just like Bosko Balaban you might say!
12:15
Bill Howell:  Wayno.... now now. Martin is not clueless. He has made mistakes though. I just wish occasionally he would admit to a few.
12:15
[Comment From Davethevan]
Bosko Balaban - legend
12:15
[Comment From Deadly Doug]
its got to be BARRY OUT for me! He didn't want to be here last summer, he doesn't want to be here this summer, lets get rid and get Bannan in - I hear fantastic things about this lad!
12:15
[Comment From Davethevan]
I always thought Danny Murphy would have been a great player for Villa...
12:15
[Comment From David from Harrogate]
Are Villa going to sign anyone decent in the summer? If Barry goes we need another midfielder, a class player, like Djemba=Djemba
12:16
Steve Wollaston:  Thanks for all the great questions and thanks also to Lisa, Aleesha, leesha for yours too...Smile
12:16
[Comment From JohnR]
Last 15 matches have been relegation form. If this carries on into next season then there will be a crisis.
12:16
Bill Howell:  Stuart, check the Mail today to get the latest on Carew. He really does love it there. Far cry from seven months back when he was a bit silly and then undoubtedly had a frosty relationship with the boss. Two years left though, and that's usuually the time when top of the range players start negotiating a deal.
12:16
[Comment From Stormin Norman]
Bill, is Gen. Krulak still influential? Is this rumour about him being in Apocalypse Now true as well? He's a 'Nam vet you know
12:17
Steve Wollaston:  Stormin Norman - not again mate... Did the tablets run out?
12:18
[Comment From Stormin Norman]
Steve, not being funny, just keep hearing it that's all
12:18
[Comment From Robert]
Bill - who would win in a naked arm wrestle - you or Mat Kendrick?
12:18
[Comment From stuart]
has randy learner got any plans to expand the stadium??
12:18
Steve Wollaston:  See I never get this with Colin Tattum or Chris Lepkowski chats - they are always very sensible.
12:18
Bill Howell:  Dave the van - five players eh! One, Hangerland. Two, Sturridge, three, Mellberg, four, Kightly, five, Van Persie.. and six, Joe Cole.
12:19
Bill Howell:  Aleesha, Ashley only goes out with Villa fans, so I hear.
12:19
Steve Wollaston:  Bill, as a Wolves fan - get your mitts off Kightly...
12:19
[Comment From JohnR]
Steve, I think there are a few of us on here that need medication after the the last few games.
12:19
Steve Wollaston:  Smile
12:19
[Comment From stuart]
we dont need kightly!
12:20
Bill Howell:  David, I do not always defend O'Neill. But I think you have to look at the wider picture and not at the last five months. Win on Sunday, as they should, and its the best points total for 12 years. And you would sack him for that? Crazy.
12:20
Steve Wollaston:  Latest on Carew: http://bit.ly/zbBjB
12:21
Bill Howell:  Sturridge has done very little, Dave, but what a prospect. The fee will be set by a trubunal because of his age. He could be the real deal. City want to keep him but he realises he won't get first team football. What a chance for a team like Villa to take him back to where he started.
12:21
[Comment From Up da villa]
MO'Ns getting key decisions wrong!
12:21
[Comment From JohnR]
Bill, does Ashley Young have an attitude problem. He seems disinterested at the moment and his form has been woeful. He will not be impressing Mr Capello
12:21
[Comment From Aleesha Smith]
What are your views on catenaccio? I think he plays for FC Milan and is a looker
12:21
[Comment From Wazza Bazza]
Bill, are this morning's rumours true that Ridgewell is on his way back?
12:22
Bill Howell:  Guppy, calm down, please. If ever Villa needed a win to finish the season and give just a few smiles it is now. As I say, lots of pressure on doing things right this summerm, especially if Barry leaves. Laursen retiring a major major blow.
12:23
[Comment From JohnR]
Aleesha seem to have the right idea - buy them for their looks !!!!
12:23
[Comment From Zachary]
Bill, what did you make of the story about Stefan Moore playing amateur football? Such a fall from grace isn't it?
12:23
Bill Howell:  Steve Tudgay, only one person to my knowledge has ever been barred from press conferences at Villa Park. And that was not me. It was a fellow on a national newspaper who has just been invited back.
12:23
[Comment From stuart]
Bill...who will be captain if Barry leaves?? personally id give it to luke young
12:23
[Comment From Villa Park]
Stuart - I don't think our fan base could handle a stadium expansion, we're that fickle that one more season outside of 4th spot could be the death of this club
12:23
[Comment From Guppy]
What's happening with Shorey? Knowing O'Neill Heskey will end up at left back
12:24
[Comment From Guppy]
van Persie and Joe Cole! U having a laugh Bill? O'Neill couldn't handle top players like that let alone have the bails to sign them
12:24
[Comment From kev avfc]
do u know anything about lucas biglia
12:24
Bill Howell:  JohnR, yes, that's always the case. Win and win arguments, lose and lose them. But I think people should take a step back and wonder if fifth or sixth would have been good enough at the start of the season. Generally I would suggest most people would be happy with the style of football? Am I right?
12:24
[Comment From Thom]
Guppy - do you like Radiohead and the colour grey?
12:25
Steve Wollaston:  Crikey lots of questions folks thanks for that, Bill will get through as many as possible.
12:25
[Comment From kev avfc]
do u have any inside information on who mon wants to sign in the summer
12:25
[Comment From Dave Sullivan]
How's big Agent Emile been doing? Time to be recalled soon
12:26
Bill Howell:  There are too many local reporters on this site, taking the mickey. You are all out of order. Can you please depart and complete Monday's Bank Holiday Mail as the deadline is about now. Including the Villa match report
12:27
[Comment From Aleesha Smith]
Are we going to have pink away shirts next season? Hope so
12:27
[Comment From Guppy]
Thom (Yorke?), MON's Radiohead, not me
12:27
Bill Howell:  Danny Murphy?!!!! Too old now Dave. Sort of a posh man's Gavin McCann. Did well secind half against Villa though. Like everyone here I'd like to see that real gem of international calibre to open up defences.
12:27
[Comment From Thom]
You just seem like a doom and gloomer that's all. Or a Blues fan on the wind up.
12:28
[Comment From kev avfc]
guppy stop being pessimistic
12:28
[Comment From stu]
Who will be captain next season??
12:29
[Comment From David from Harrogate]
How much has MON got to spend this summer?
12:29
[Comment From MON out!]
Guppy isn't a pessimist, he's a REALIST! MO'N's honeymoon period is over and its time to get someone like Alex Ferguson in
12:29
[Comment From Guppy]
I'm not folks just realistic. Don't like what's happening. I can see O'Neill walking next season because the heat gets too bad
12:29
[Comment From kev avfc]
bill do u know any good free agents that could do a job for us
12:29
[Comment From Top Floor]
Stu - I think captain should be Barry Bannan
12:29
Bill Howell:  Deadly Doug - Barry didn't want to be here? No, he didn't but surely that changed when he stepped out at Walsall having volunteered to play, knowing the fans would give him a right pummeling - which quite a few did, and then cheered him off the park. I think he has still been Villa's best player this season. Better than Petrov. The fact he didn't win the Player of the Year was down to people's perceptions he has played all season with a chip on his shoulder. Just not true.
12:30
[Comment From stu]
bill ignor them...hes a jealous bluenose on the windup
12:30
[Comment From Encks]
Bill, when are Villa going to organise their throw ins better?
12:30
[Comment From Alonso]
Barry is over rated
12:31
Bill Howell:  Last 15 matches relegation form? John R you are very right. Some of those games have been woeful - Fulham second half, Boro first half, man City first half, Liverpool last 70 minutes, Man United last 20..... need I go on?!! But some were genuinely decent performances - Stoke at home for 88 mins, Tottenham at home etc. This cannot go on though. Massive pressure on between August and October.
12:32
[Comment From Pete1982]
Who will we get to replace Barry Bill?
12:32
Steve Wollaston:  Who is Barry Bill?
12:32
[Comment From stu]
Bill, who will be captain next season?
12:34
Bill Howell:  Villa Park - progress under O'Neill? Yes. 16th, 11th, 6th, 5th or 6th.... That's where you judge a club. That's where I look to see where John Gregory's sides finished, regardless of how they are perceived to have played their football. But have they slipped back since February? Undoubtedly. The trick will be to ghet it right this summer with transfers, and I admit there have been some bad errors in that department over the last three years, and to start off the new season on the front foot.
12:34
[Comment From Pete1982]
Barry, Bill
12:34
[Comment From North Stand Massiv]
Good question Stu, I'd have Craig Gardner as captain, he's the only one with the balls for a fight
12:34
Bill Howell:  Robert? Only one of me and Mat Kendrick would be naked. I even sleep in my Asda suit, you see.
12:36
[Comment From stu]
Bill, any news on stadium expansion and next years captain?
12:36
12:36
Steve Wollaston:  The tie and shirt combo in question...
12:36
[Comment From Aleesha Smith]
mmm yummy
12:36
[Comment From Dick and Dom]
stu - the stadiums already too big for us, any expansion would be suicidal
12:36
Bill Howell:  Stuart, expanding the stadium is a bit of an old one. Of course he has. Those plans for the North Stand have been on Doug's old desk for about seven years. Attendances have slipped back this season slightly though. Making it less of a necessity. I expect them to spruce the old stand up in the short term, but why replace it when a 42,650 stadium sells on average 40,000 tickets. Give the money to the manager I say.
12:37
[Comment From JohnR]
My real worry is that they will take their current form into next season. Wigan will be the same.
12:37
[Comment From JohnR]
Thank god he's got clothes on
12:37
[Comment From Zachary]
Stefan Moore?
12:37
[Comment From Pete1982]
How much will Randolph J Lerner III make available in summer Bill?
12:38
Bill Howell:  Guppy, I like it! Heskey to left-back it is!! Shorey was damn close to leavin in January, so I was told by one source. If Villa get a decent enough offer this summer he'll be on his way. I am sure there are clubs out there for him. But at what sort of price will they pay? Nowhere near £4m. That walk of shame at Fulham said so much about his relationship with the manager. But did you hear anyone in the dressing room criticise him? Not a sausage
12:38
[Comment From Ivanhoe]
Bill - do you accept now that the signing of Emule was a mistake? He's been pathetic in my opinion...
12:39
[Comment From Dave Sullivan]
Agent Heskey has done the task he was asked to do
12:39
[Comment From stu]
ivanhoe is a blues fan on the windu
12:39
[Comment From stu]
but he has been poor
12:40
Bill Howell:  Wazza Bazza - Ridgewell on his way back?!!!! Where do you get your information? He may be making his way back from injury, or making his way back to Bodymoor to collect some autographs, but his time at Villa is over. Done well at Blues though, by all accounts. In fact, very well.
12:41
[Comment From JohnR]
I actually think that Shorey has done OK. It is obvious though that there is a problem with him and MON
12:41
[Comment From Gary Barrys Sweet LP]
Bill, do you worry that our midfield of Petrov and Sidwell next season won't have the bite to handle the Blue's Bridgade's Carsley and Bowyer....do we need some steel in there, e.g. Craig "Da Hardman" Gardner??
12:41
[Comment From JohnR]
Bill, you're right at the beginning of the season I think most of us would have been happy with fifth or sixth, but given the start we had it could and possibly should have been better. MON has made mistakes and as you said it would be nice if he could admit to a few,
12:42
[Comment From Sweet Left Peg]
If Ridgewell doesn't want to come back, nor Mellberg, and chance of Cahill?? WHY OH WHY do we sell these tremendous defenders??
12:42
[Comment From stu]
carsley and bowyer are terrible players
12:42
[Comment From Guppy]
Petrov and who in midfield next season Bill? O'Neill needs to sign a top notch player like Essien
12:43
[Comment From JohnR]
We just need to get the Barry saga over, sooner rather than later otherwise it just becomes too distracting
12:43
Bill Howell:  JohnR, Ashley Young's attitude is something I could rattle on all day about. If you speak to people at the training ground, like the receptionist, she absolutely raves about him as a bloke. So too do other people I talk to. Says he always has time for them. Always signs autographs etc. So I have to bear that in mind. He does not like doing interviews for the media. They are full of cliches. That may well be down to shyness, though. But on the pitch some of his antics really get my goat. Too much posturing. Far too much.
12:43
[Comment From Up da villa]
Bill, who would be your choice to replace Laursen? I've heard we're in for Cannavaro and a young Englishment as reserve. Maybe Cahill?? Oh yeah we had Cahill once and MON sold him!
12:43
[Comment From David from Harrogate]
Best points total for 12 years means nothing after this slide. We could have won the UEFA Cup, we were miles ahead of Arsenal. O'Leary was two goals away from getting us into Europe with less money!
12:45
Bill Howell:  David, I take your point. But league placings should mean something. And yet, to win a trophy is what it is all about. That's why Moscow was so strange. An acceptance that finishing fourth meant everything. Still, how come O'Neill still gets it in the neck whilst Harry Redknapp escaped unscathed? That one I cannot quite work out.
12:46
[Comment From Fact man]
Bill, you stated MON finished 16th, this is a popular error amongst us Villa fans, it was O'Dreary that finished 16th, MON finished 11th in his first season here, and frankly should have done a lot better
12:46
[Comment From JohnR]
Totally agree about Ashley Young but surely this is where the manager earns his corn, he should be sorting out his attitude on the pitch.
12:46
[Comment From lee]
Yeah 5th or 6th at the start off the season would off been considered a good season, whats more disapointing though is the cup runs we've expericenced, surly given our form in the league in the early parts off the season. we would off hoped for some sort off cup run. Finishing 5th or 6th with at least a semi-final somewhere would off made it more off a succesful season
12:46
[Comment From stu]
i think the fact it was our first season back in europe for 4 or 5 years, and so every1 wanted to give it our best shot
12:46
[Comment From David from Harrogate]
Bill, O'Neill gets off lightly from the press. They fawn over him and everyone thinks he's a genius for some reason. I think his reputation will be shattered next season
12:46
Bill Howell:  Zachary, Stefan Moore story.... very sad indeed. What a fall from grace. Villa to QPR to Walsall to Kidderminster to some outfit in Solihull wasn't it, all in the space of a few years. Still he has more money than I could ever dream of. He hasn't been made redundant at LDV vans. But a warning to all those pampered professionals out there. Luke Moore, are you listening?
12:47
[Comment From David from Harrogate]
Dont start me on Europe! What's the point,
12:47
[Comment From Luke Moore]
Yes
12:47
[Comment From SLT]
I was disgusted with "MoscowGate".... I'm disapointed to say I even burnt my free flag :(
12:47
Bill Howell:  Kev, have to say this Biglia link is a new one on me. Still trying to get to the bottom of it, like I am with so many links. It's so easy for a foreign agent to get publicity for a player.
12:48
Bill Howell:  Petrov will be the new captain. Pretty sure of that, Stuart.
12:48
[Comment From Aleesha Smith]
Biglia sounds interesting
12:49
[Comment From stu]
is there any truth in the links that gardner and Knight are targets for blues?
12:49
[Comment From Stefan Moore]
Petrov captain?!?!? STUPID STUPID STUPID!
12:49
[Comment From Guppy]
Bill, will MON take the Europa Cup seriously?
12:49
[Comment From stu]
petrov is a bad choice for me...he's too quiet, luke young for me
12:50
[Comment From Guppy]
Friedel for captain, Krulak for general lol
12:50
Bill Howell:  Up da Villa, replacing Laursen will be the toughest job of the lot this summer. Why on earth did they allow Mellberg to leave? Imagine those two together next season. As I say I think Hangerland wil be going to Arsenal. Jonas Olsson is good at Albion, but not quite up to where Villa need to be looking.
12:52
[Comment From Seth]
Bill, are you on Twitter?
12:52
[Comment From Guppy]
Olsson is about our level under MON. Big, cant run but heads it
12:52
Bill Howell:  Guppy - Hiddink walked into a dressing room of top players and has been there only two minutes. Despite all the hype over his time there he didn't win the league, and he didn't take his team to the Champions League Final because they were deservedly beaten by Barcelona. O'Neill handling star players is an argument that doesn't sit either, for me. The fact he chooses not to go for personalities in the first place should not be held against him.
12:53
[Comment From Guppy]
On the Twitter?! You can't say that!
12:53
[Comment From Guppy]
Sorry, on Twitter, not the Twitter. Thought it was code
12:54
[Comment From stu]
Bill...i hear martin has watched Fabian Delph...any news??
12:54
Bill Howell:  Villa's midfield will be woefully inept if Sidwell, Petrov and Reo-Coker have the run next season. I don't think Petrov would have resigned if those promises were made. I think he will have been given assurances of quality coming in if Barry turns down that contract offer.
12:55
[Comment From Pete1882]
lol Guppy. Bill, can we expect to see big changes in the summer? I'd take Hangerland or Gallas to replace Laursen
12:57
Bill Howell:  David, I am not Villa's accountant so I cannot tell you for sure. One of my sources suggests it won't be too much and that the manager will have to sell to reinvest in the main. But there again, I cannot believe Petrov signed on the dotted line without some sort of assurance. Whatever Villa spend it will probably be less than their competitors around fourth to seventh place.
12:57
Will Barry be at Villa next season?
yes
 ( 50% )
no
 ( 50% )

12:58
Steve Wollaston:  A lot of you think Villa should go for Owen...
12:58
Bill Howell:  Kev, the only free agent that I think would be worth a punt is Owen. But then again, like everyone I read those stories last week about his future. All those injuries make his ability to sign a long term contract elsewhere a bit of a long shot.
12:59
[Comment From Appy1]
Owen Wilson?
12:59
Steve Wollaston:  Hmmm, yes Appy1. Have you not heard he is a demon at CB
12:59
[Comment From Pete1982]
Owen is too small, wouldn't be able to flick on the long balls
12:59
Steve Wollaston:  Heskey-Owen combo up-front?
1:00
[Comment From stu]
carew or heskey could do that??
1:00
[Comment From Withey]
Hi Bill. How confident are you personally that we'll beat Blues twice next season?
1:01
[Comment From Appy1]
Heskey, Carew, Crouch, Hangerland - MON's ideal forward line
1:02
Steve Wollaston:  10 more minutes Bill?
1:02
Bill Howell:  Pete1982, replacing Barry is almost as difficult as replacing Laursen, if not more so. How much would Barry cost with one year left on his contract - £8m to £10m probably. That's how much it cost for Reo-Coker and I would not spend as much on him again, would you? If only O'Neill had given Diarra the wages he wanted before he signed for Portsmouth. I certainly would not go for Huddlestone or Jenas, both of whom are likely to out of that revolving door at Tottenham. Neither are good enough. So I think the manager has to look abroad. Belgium perhaps. There is a real target of substance there.
1:03
[Comment From JohnR]
Steve, will you be keeping these chats up during the summer?
1:03
Bill Howell:  Luke Young a major doubt today Kev. Ashley, they are a lot more hopeful. It was only a kick on the calf after all, and not a broken leg which is what he made it look like when he hobbled onto the team coach passed me in the corridor.
1:03
Steve Wollaston:  John R - that is certainly the plan mate. We will of course be bringing you a good package of stuff from pre-season games etc too.
1:03
[Comment From stu]
Bill the belgian target?? Steven Deffour??
1:04
[Comment From Lynchy]
Huddlestone is far better than anyone in midfield now. He can pass the ball
1:04
Steve Wollaston:  Huddestone is potentially a great player, something hasn't quite clicked into place with him. A very very good player though.
1:04

people having a dig about long ball every few minutes obviously havent been to many games this season

Bill Howell:  Craig Gardner as captain did someone say. Blimey he is quieter than Gareth Barry! Seriously though, I hope Craig stays at the club. He has three years left I think, but I can see him doing a Steven Davis, or a Gary Cahill and asking for a move. I really can. He has played precious little this season. The fee? Well, I'd be asking for £5 million.

Bill Howell:  Fabian Delph, Stu? There have been scouts keeping an eye. Nothing from the manager yet though. One for the future. Not necessarily now. Surely he cannot stay at Leeds for another season. Poor Leeds, poor, poor Leeds... sob. Doug Ellis used to get stick for the advancements made by Leeds since the 1996 League Cup Final and those made by Villa. Those people are not chirping now, are they?

Steve Wollaston:  5 minutes folks, thanks for all the great questions...

Bill Howell:  Withey? Beat Blues twice? Not this time. I fear the pendulem has got to swing back the other way, a little at least. Four points though. Six against Wolves. Six against Stoke City.

Steve Wollaston:  57% of you say Gareth Barry will be on his bike

Bill Howell:  Huddlestone.... oh please no.

Steve Wollaston:  Anymore for anymore? Thanks for your time as always Bill and thanks to you lot for your great questions. Visit www.birminghampost.net, www.birminghammail.net, www.sundaymercury.net for all the latest Villa news, gossip and features

Bill Howell:  Deffour's the man. Time to cast that scouting net a little further than England or Celtic.

Steve Wollaston:  Bill you have turned into a microphone my apologies

has martin sent scouts abroad?? if so where??

Bill Howell:  John R, will the team be up for it? Will be difficult for them not to be with a full house and everyone watching their every move on the box. But then again, I know a few who have their flights booked to the sunshine on Monday. A broken toe would not do their plans any good, would it? I think if Villa start well, they'll win at a canter, if not they could struggle. and take it easy.

Bill Howell:  Stu, scouts abroad. They're all over the place. Scandinavian appointment definitely a good move. O'Neill now wathing targets in France. Always a good sign. Cheaper than back home, and as others have proved - even Albion - there are gems to be found.

Steve Wollaston:  Okay folks... thanks for your time - Bill will be back in three weeks I think..
