Aston Villa's Gareth Barry is staying tight-lipped on his future

Agbonlahor was glad Villa signed off on a high with a professional performance and a 1-0 win which relegated Newcastle and agrees with O’Neill that despite matching last season’s sixth placed finish the extra two points is a sign of progress.

“I think we were comfortable in the game and it was the right result for us to win,” said Agbonlahor.

“We just played our own game, didn’t worry about Newcastle’s situation and got a good result out of it.

“We’re disappointed that we didn’t finish higher than last season, but we still got more points than last season so we’re improving.”

Agbonlahor, who finished the season with one UEFA Cup and 11 Premier League goals, believes Villa are now a force to be reckoned with.

The England hopeful reckons the away performances at the Emirates and Old Trafford have made opponents adopt a more cautious approach.

“I think clubs have been more scared of us coming to Villa Park and when we go to their places so it’s been a good season,” he added. “It’s good to know that teams fear us more.

“When we went and played away at some of the top four we caused them problems, like at Manchester United and Arsenal. We just have to try to continue that next season.”
