Aston Villa fans reveal who they want Martin O'Neill to sign
Harry: Outs for me: Harewood, Salifou, Osbourne Taylor, O'Halloran (sick note) and probably Knight.
Likely to go: Barry, NRC, Shorey.
I would keep Barry only if he would sign a new contract as its disruptive to have him running down his contract but I think he is gone. I would keep Shorey as I think he has come good. NRC is useful but more useful as a bargaining chip with Spurs.
As for ins:
Striker: not sure on this except we need a good one. Everyone says Sturridge but for me he is unproven and probably trouble.
Midfield: Bentley, Huddlestone and Defour sound like good shouts to me.
Centrebacks: Hangeland (but I don't think we would get him}, Wheater (I like him but would he lead the line?). I've go no knowledge of the other players being mentioned in the press but we must have a big physical presence and a natural leader
This would leave us with:
GK: Freidal and Guzan (Parish as cover)
FB: Young, Gardiner, Shorey and Bouma.(Lichaj and Lowry as cover)
CB: Cuellar, Davies, Hangeland and Wheater (Clarke and Baker as cover)
Midfield: Young, Milner, Sidwell, Petrov, Huddlestone, Defour and Bentley (Bannan, Herd, Hogg and Albrighton as cover)
Strikers: Gabby, Carew, Delfouneso, Heskey plus a another (Collins as cover)
32 players which is enough if used properly.
Stevo62: It has been said on other posts, but this is THE crucial close season for MON.
I personally hope that the Barry situation is sorted quickly.
I thought he was great yesterday, but I would let him go & get some cash rather than let him wind down & leave for free next summer.
The other big one is of course replacing the Great Dane, I was gutted watching him walk around the pitch for the last time.
I am also not sure that Friedel has another season in him.
I have heard that the Bentley deal is a stonewall certainty. I would also try & get Huddlestone & Bale. That would give us 2 midfielders for 1 & cover for left back. Take Sturridge on a free & maybe the lad Defour (although I don't know much about him).
At centre back there are rumours about Micah from Citeh as part of a deal for Barry, but what about the lad Turner from Hull? Big, uncompromising & no-nonsense. I would also keep Zat as a squad player.
That gives us 4 centre backs. Gardner could cover for right back, I don't think he will make it in centre midfield in a top 4 - 6 team, but he could cover for Luke.
Goalkeeper- Joe Hart or Green from West ham to give competition to Guzan?
