How did Everton out-perform Aston Villa?
Aston Villa fans on our froum want to know how Villa ended up finishing behind Everton?

Aston Villa Joe: Not only did they pip us to 5th spot but they are also in the F.A Cup final.
Bearing in mind what O'Neill has spent in relation to Moyes and the relative sizes of squads and make up of squads, how have they out performed us?
IMO, Moyes has got more out of his players than O'Neill. Also Everton have a better balance to their side where there is not such a reliance on 1 or 2 players. There is also more of a collective team dynamic where at times we can appear like a bunch of disjointed individuals.
Certainly at times this season there has been little or no cohesion between the back four and midfield and midfield and attack. A total lack of fluidity, which needs addressing.
Wembley57er: Moyes has had over 7 years to build his squad. He picked up Cahill early on, who has turned out to be an absolute bargain. His Centre Backs have been playing together for a considerable period. He has spent big money over the period, when prices were somewhat lower earlier on. And he has won what, or put down a consistent challenge to the top 4?
There have been ups and downs in his 7 year rule, and whilst they have beaten us this season by ONE POINT, perhaps we should compare like with like after 7 years.
I still stick to my view that to break into the top four with our limited resources (not capital considerations solely) for buying quality players could take at least 5 years and may take considerably longer. I am afraid the cost of football at Villa Park would have to go up considerably to support so many of posters' aspirations.
You cant have the 3rd cheapest football in the EPL and expect to compete at the highest level!
As a poster of a few moths ago said smell the coffee, get real, we cant hope to compete on money alone, our only chance is utilising the skills of an intelligent leader to approach the problem from a different perspective.
Garry: The right answer is that ultimately they outperformed us because they got more points than us.. my thoughts are we outperformed them as we got more out of a smaller squad,
Our players improved more. we played more attractive football..they were mentally stronger..
But for me the future is bright and tinged with claret and blue!! we will kick there bottom next season.
49ersruleok: Villa have been better head to head against Everton over the last 2 seasons,Everton have been more consistant over the season than villa and as such have finished above Villa at the end.
Although Everton finished 5th, again through greater consistancy, they have less points than they did last season.
Villa have improved every season under O'Neill.
