Manchester City new boy Gareth Barry under fire from Aston Villa fans
Gareth Barry's shock departure from Aston Villa yesterday has sparked a lot of activity on our forums, here's a selection of those views, there are a few pages!
Bear1: Let's face facts Barry was always going to leave this season, good servant he may have been, however like all players he's gone for cash. Man City along with Villa, Spurs & Everton will be fighting for 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th as they are all a long way off the elusive Champions League spaces. Never mind Barry going I'm more interested on who will be coming in, hopefully the Barry deal comprises of cash and some of Man City's young talent.
Gavinochops: Barry signed for the 100k a week. Fair play. I'd do the same. As for all this nonsense about Man City being some bigger club... erm lets not get carried away. I mean for a start, when did Manc City win the European Cup? Having a big overdraft doesn't mean your a bigger club. If Citeh finish 3rd/4th consecutively - win a trophy or two - they can then be considered 'bigger' than us. Someone mentioned better fans somewhere.. How comes Eastlands has so many empty blue seats during matches.. except when they play United?
Lambo: I'm a blue and live in the real world. All I'm saying is that Money talks and O'Neill has dropped a clanger. Dropping half the team to then go out was a huge backward step...you weren't going to win anything else to be fair were you (neither were we). It's clear that AV has some great players (couldnt believe how Carew fended off our two cloggers Richards and Dunne last year at your place). The rumour in Manchester was that we were buying Carew (I was pleased)Can't wait to see Barry play at Villa next year :-)
AstonLane: My concern is O'Neill won't buy any players from overseas because he's so Pro English, which is okay don't get me wrong, but we can't attract a player of the calibre of a Gerrard or Lampard to replace Barry with which means more than likely O'Neill will replace him with another mediocre bog standard English midfielder which won't really do anything for us in terms of buliding on another 6th position finish and getting into that top 4.
Same applies with Laursen, I can see O'Neill buying someone like David Wheater or Steven Taylor to replace him, watch and see and I promise i'll eat my words if i'm wrong.
LeeHolteK6: Let him go in my opinion, and I hope his career spirals downwards as a result of such an insult to join what is a club with no history, no success, no character, whom wants to buy the league through oil money.... Total joke and Barry and his agent are at the centre of it! One things for sure, we have 40,000 loyal fans each week who will get over his poor decision to cash in on a move to Eastlands. I just hope he lives to regret it!
Tirednweary: Gareth Barry has carried the Villa for 3 or 4 seasons now. You guys should take your hat off to him, he has been a real rock for you.
