Aston Villa fans react to Gareth Barry's letter
Tony_baduk: Yesterday I was really disappointed in Barry. Today after reading his letter in the Mail, I feel much better because he's explained himself for joining a team like Man City.
I don't buy the reasons he's stated but nevertheless he's never gonna state he joined for the money, which he clearly has.
Good luck to Barry in his future but what a poor decision to opt for Man City.
Chrisupnorth: I don't buy into the idea that City is such a bad option. They have mega bucks, have already demonstrated a will to spend it in large amounts on big name players, and are being linked with more big name players on a daily basis. Sooner or later they will succeed. GB can see that and wants some of the action.
Eeoor: What does it say to other players looking to join a new club when you lose your best player ,its says don't bother going to Villa.
Mon has not got the balls to sign big named players and pay big wages which will always hold the club back, if he thinks like that he should be managing the likes of blues or wolves or the baggies .
Barry has gone for a bigger pay off that's for sure but at the same time he has chosen a club that is going places when you see that they will be bidding for the likes of tevez and all and i will bet they will be in a better position than villa next year .
Mon has failed the club this season there was never a better season to have got champs league so if he couldnt deliver the season gone by what makes you think he will this season with more clubs with the dosh.
There is already a lot of your fans not renewing season tickets for next season because of the disapointment of mons results .
Crabtree: I think Mark Hughes has already proved that it doesn't matter how much you spend on a team, it doesn't guarantee success. If it was just about playing in the Champions League, he'd have gone to Liverpool. Money talks, and Barry listens, letter or no letter
Welfare AVFC: G.B the day you signed for city i lost all respect for you.
City are no where near competing for major honours and it doesn't matter how much money they've got there not gonna be.
You just went there for the money no other reason...
If you had gone to a better side or for champions league football i'm sure we would've understand but you didn't you went to line you pockets and i hope the holte end will join me in giving you hell...
NellyDean: If reports in the Liverpool Echo are true, LFC made a late bid for Barry that matched City's but by then the deal had gone through. This suggests that Benitez was still interested in him, but Barry did not want to play left back or left mid, which Rafa was supposed to have earmarked for him. Barry should take a leaf out of Gerrard's book and be mature enough to play anywhere for the team if he really wanted to play in the CL. I guess he didn't in the end.
Whatever the reasons he's going, if it means that Alonso now stays I'm very happy. If we could have had both, great, but replacing Alonso with Barry would not have been a like for like replacement, because Alonso is by far the superior playmaker.
I think Barry may come to regret this decision , and I hope his £100,000-£130,000 a week helps soften the blow of never playing among Europe's elite.
