Curtis Davies says the players support Aston Villa transfer stance

CURTIS Davies insists Martin O’Neill’s patient approach in the transfer market has the backing of the Villa Park dressing room.

O’Neill yesterday vowed he would not be rushed into making knee-jerk signings despite growing frustration from some Villa supporters.

And Davies revealed the players understand and fully support their manager’s careful and considered recruitment policy.

The former Albion captain is confident O’Neill is shrewd enough to bring in the right signings to strengthen Villa’s small squad.

“All summer there has been talk of another striker and another centre-half, with Martin Laursen retiring,” said Davies.

“Either way, whoever does come in, they are going to be improvements and it’s going to be competition for places.

“The manager doesn’t come flying out of the blocks and try to outbid people, I think he is very shrewd with his signings. He identifies who he wants and he tries very hard to get him behind the scenes.”
