Curtis Davies says the players support Aston Villa transfer stance

Davies has been impressed by last week’s capture of Stewart Downing for an initial £10 million, plus potential £2 million add-ons. And the centre-half is anticipating more arrivals of the same calibre as the England winger to boost Villa’s hopes of domestic and European success.
“Hopefully there will be more additions similar to Stewart,” said Davies.
“It’s a case of being patient. Some people think we manage to lose out on players, but that’s only because we’re not publicly throwing it out there.
“I’m sure the manager has a game plan because he’s a very clever man.
“If we’re going to try to push on next season we need numbers but also strength – there’s no point signing people for the sake of it,.
“Touch wood, we will be having a long season – this Europa League is the never-ending tournament – if we can go far in that and hopefully in a couple of domestic players then we are going to need a lot of players.”
Davies’ central defensive colleague is also looking forward to welcoming new faces to provide extra competition at the back.
And Cuellar is hoping he can solve the manager’s defensive dilemma by becoming a regular starter in his second season at the club.
“I think it is good for the team when the manger is trying to buy other players because you will have more competition and the possibility to improve,” said Cuellar.
“I would like to play every game. Last year I had to many problems with certain injuries and I lost time and missed some games. This time I would like to play many more games.”
Meanwhile, Villa fans travelling to Colchester for tonight’s friendly have been warned that the new U’s ground, the Weston Homes Community Stadium, is notoriously difficult to find.
Poor signage and problems locating the venue on satelite navigation systems have prompted the club to urge supporters to lobby the Highways Agency.
