Curtis Davies backs Aston Villa trio to wing it in World Cup

Curtis Davies

CURTIS Davies is backing all three of Aston Villa’s England wide-boys – James Milner, Ashley Young and Stewart Downing – to wing their way to the World Cup next summer.

Ashley Young and James Milner have both been called up for this evening’s friendly in Holland, with Young set for his first start and Milner expected to be on the bench.

And with new boy Stewart Downing battling to overcome a fractured foot in time to stake a claim in the second half of the season, Villa boast a trio of Three Lions wing hopefuls.

Young is in line for his sixth cap, while Milner has yet to make an appearance for the senior side and Downing is the most experienced of the three with 23 caps.

“They are three players that people will say are the future of England,” said Davies. “They are going to be rivals for Villa and England but hopefully they can all push each other through.
