Curtis Davies backs Aston Villa trio to wing it in World Cup

“They all like getting at players, they all like beating players, they all put a lot of balls in the box.

“I would love to be a striker when they are playing because you are going to get chances galore. Hopefully however they fit in together it will work out for us.

“Stewy can play in a number of roles, so can Ashley and Milly so, come the season, however the manager chooses to use those three I’m sure they’re all going to be top drawer anyway.

“In terms of going to the World Cup next year, you would say Stewy and Ash are in the driving seat but it’s a long season and I’m sure Mr Capello will have some hard decisions to make.”

Villa’s new squad numbers have been announced with Downing inheriting Gareth Barry’s number six. Martin Laursen’s number five will remain vacant until his replacement is signed. Fabian Delph and Habib Beye will wear 16 and 23 respectively.
