Aston Villa: Goal was my mistake - Davies
Aug 21 2009 by Mathew Kendrick, Birmingham Mail
CURSED defender Curtis Davies has taken responsibility for Rapid Vienna’s winning goal – and expressed his concerns about his latest shoulder setback.
Just 16 seconds had elapsed when a Davies slip allowed Nikica Jelavic a free header for the decider in last night’s Europa League defeat to Rapid Vienna.
“The pitch was as dry as anything and the one place where it’s got a little bit sloshy is the goalmouths,” said Davies.
“I watched it back on the video and I just wanted to make sure I’d taken up the right position, which I had. I’d stepped in front of him and just collapsed.
“I’m already down on the floor when he scores and I think he actually jumped over me so that’s frustrating because you try and do things positively and properly in these games.
