Aston Villa: Goal was my mistake - Davies

“It’s my mistake still because I slipped, but it’s a mistake that I couldn’t help. It’s deflating because it changes the whole game.

“You could tell from the first minute their strikers were sitting back in their own half and you don’t blame them really because this is cup football and you’ve got to try and get to the group stage.

“It’s frustrating we didn’t make more of it and we’ll just have to take them to Villa Park and beat them there.”

Davies bravely soldiered on after aggravating his persistent shoulder problem before being replaced by Shane Lowry in the closing stages.

“My shoulder’s slightly jarred again and it’s frustrating because I actually tried to do something positive. I stepped forward with the ball and took a couple of men on.

“I thought I was fouled but I didn’t really see where the ball went. I fell on it funny and then it just jarred a bit.

“It popped out slightly. It’s frustrating that it keeps getting sore so I’m just going to have to address that and have a look at it and see what we want to do.”
