Injured Curtis Davies has urged Aston Villa to sign Richard Dunne to ease defensive crisis

CURTIS Davies today cranked up the pressure on Villa to ease their defensive crisis by rushing through the signing of Richard Dunne after admitting he could face four months out.
Davies added insult to injury when his dislocated shoulder popped again during last night’s soul-destroying Europa League play-off exit at the hands of Rapid Vienna at Villa Park.
Villa’s medical staff will today decide whether Davies needs surgery on the problem joint and an operation could rule the former Albion defender out for almost half the season.
Martin O’Neill had a bid for Dunne accepted yesterday, but Davies’ latest blow makes Villa’s need to push through the signing of the Manchester City captain all the more urgent.
“Possibly I’m going to need surgery,” said Davies. “I don’t know, we’ll have to look at it.
“Whether it means a rest or whether it means having something done I don’t know. I need to speak to the doctor because I can’t just make the decision myself or let it be on my head.
“It is erratic, but it can’t keep happening so I need to make sure that it’s right.
“It’s something that surgery could heal but it’s a lengthy lay-off.
