Aston Villa: We have a better squad than last year - O'Neill
Sep 4 2009 by Mathew Kendrick, Birmingham Mail
MARTIN O’Neill today hinted that his current Villa squad is stronger than last season’s after declaring himself pleased with his summer transfer business.
Villa have lost four players with Martin Laursen’s retirement, Gareth Barry and Stuart Taylor’s moves to Manchester City and the sale of Zat Knight to Bolton.
In their place O’Neill has recruited Stewart Downing, Fabian Delph, Habib Beye, Stephen Warnock, Richard Dunne, James Collins and Andy Marshall.
And, after concerns about the lack of depth in his squad last season, the Villa boss is satisfied with his wheeling and dealing during the transfer window.
“We have it now,” said O’Neill.
“That’s it, for better or worse. Whatever injuries or suspensions we pick up in that time you can’t do anything about it.
“Overall, I’m delighted to have got a few players in. I think they will help us immensely. We looked a bit thin.
“Am I happy with my overall business? I couldn’t be more pleased. I think we have strengthened the side.
