“It was devastating,” he recalled. “We were whacked, weren’t we?
‘‘We were a relegation side on our way to relegation and it showed.”
As for the derby being Gold’s last before Carson Yeung completes his takeover, he admitted to pangs of sadness.
“It is a sobering thought, isn’t it?’’ Gold said.
‘‘We’ve had an amazing 16, almost 17 years, at the club.
‘‘It would be nice if we could get the victory tomorrow, not for me or the other directors, but for our supporters and the fact that we would like to hand over a club with as many points as possible on the board.”
Gold, who has admitted that he would be keen to stay on under a new regime, added: “But, hey, we’ve not gone yet – there’s still work to be done.”
