Aston Villa: Gabby is in form of his life - John Carew
Sep 22 2009 by Mathew Kendrick, Birmingham Mail
JOHN Carew is convinced Gabby Agbonlahor is the perfect shape – and has threatened to chase his strike partner out of the gym if he gets any more muscular.
Carew has been impressed with the way Agbonlahor has bulked up over the summer to give himself a physical edge over Premier League defenders.
But the Norwegian powerhouse shares manager Martin O’Neill’s concerns about Agbonlahor getting too big and losing his trademark bursts of pace.
Agbonlahor used his strength and his speed to take his tally to three in three games with a fantastic goal in Saturday’s Villa Park victory over Portsmouth.
“He’s scored three goals now and he’s brilliant,” said Carew.
“He’s in great shape and it’s amazing for him. He scores important goals and good goals.
“As long as he doesn’t lose his speed it’s good because then he gets even stronger in the challenges.
“He shouldn’t get bigger because he’s already strong enough to hold off the defenders.
“The way he is now he’s the perfect shape. He’s in his best shape, he doesn’t need to get skinnier or bigger.
“He’s strong enough to hold off strong defenders and he has the pace to get away so he’s just got it perfectly balanced now.
