Aston Villa: Gabriel Agbonlahor reveals his pride at winning England recall

“He has given me a chance so hopefully I can reward him if I get a chance to play in either of the games.

“If the likes of Wayne Rooney or Jermain Defoe were to get injured he wants to know who can replace them. Hopefully I will get my chance in the next two games.”

After five goals in five games before last night’s draw with City, Agbonlahor believes he is in the best form of his career going into the international break.

“I’ll do my best in training and try to get on in the games,” he added.

“The last two I’ve not made so I’m happy to get back in. If you look at the games this season, not just me but the team have been working hard.

“I think yesterday a lot of people expected us to lose to Manchester City but we dug in there and we could have won it.

“Have I ever been playing better? No. But I have to give credit to my team-mates as well who are setting me up with the chances.

“I think I am getting better game by game but I have to try to continue that.”
