We deserved a point, says Aston Villa star James Milner after the draw with Burnley

Villa had to come from a goal down in atrocious conditions, thanks to a last-gasp Emile Heskey header, but Milner feels Martin O’Neill’s side deserved something from the game.

James Milner scores Villa's 4th goal.

“We battled hard, it was a tough game but we always knew it would be,” he said. “We’ve had some very good results this year and to go down early was disappointing but it’s how you battle back.

“It wasn’t a day for pretty football, it was a day for getting second balls and flicking it on and keeping going and we managed to do that and get a point.”

Milner feels Owen Coyle’s Clarets are a tough team and will do well this season.

“You look at the results they’ve had and they battle hard and they play a bit of football as well,” he said. “They’re clever from set-pieces and short corners and they’re very inventive with that.

“They’re a good team who deserve to be in the league and they’re proving that with the way they’ve played so far this season.”

Milner was pleased, however, that the point catapulted Villa into the top four – for 24 hours at least.

“We kept going, we knew it would be tough, especially after going one down, but we kept pressing and pressing and got our rewards,” he said.
