Petrov viewed Tottenham’s emphatic 9-1 win over Wigan at the weekend but is adamant Villa can handle them.
He said: “That win was great and not many Premier League teams can score nine goals butt we can beat them I am sure although we will treat them with respect.”
The last time the two sides met at Villa Park Tottenham clinched the three points with a 2-1 win but Petrov feels it is a stronger Villa side this season.
“We know they are trying to challenge the top four and they are serious contenders but then so are we,” he said.
“We will show them respect but we won’t be changing our game.”
The skipper believes the fact his side are at home and will have another bumper crowd behind them will be a major bonus.
“We have been in great form so far at home and we plan to continue the same way,” the Bulgarian international said.”
“More and more clubs are trying to break into the top four and we are trying really hard to be one of them.
“I believe this season is going to be more exciting than ever.
“It is going to be a very hard game but we hope the fans will get behind us again. We want three points.”
