'I've nothing to prove' says Aston Villa left back Nicky Shorey

Aston Villa's out-of-favour full-back Nicky Shorey insists he’s got nothing to prove after reporting to Nottingham Forest for his month’s loan with the Championship club.

Shorey is relishing the opportunity to play first-team football at Forest after being pushed out of the frame at Villa following Martin O’Neill’s capture of Stephen Warnock.

The 28-year-old former Reading left-back is likely to go straight into Billy Davies’ side for his debut in their league match against Doncaster at the City Ground tomorrow.

“I don’t think I’ve got anything to prove to anyone apart from to myself,” said Shorey.

“I just want to play some games and try to show that I’m still a good player.

“I’ve played for a number of years now and hopefully I can bring a bit more experience to the squad.”

“The fact that Forest were so keen on taking me on loan was an exciting factor and I was delighted to sign.

“I’ve seen a few of Forest’s games on TV this season and know just how well they have been playing.

“The prospect of being involved in a club that appears to be moving forward in the right direction is certainly appealing.’’
