John Carew came off the substitute's bench to keep Aston Villa's Champions League push on target with a second-half winner against battling Stoke at Villa Park.The Norway international struck his fourth Barclays Premier League goal of the campaign after replacing the injured Emile Heskey midway through the first period.It secured a fourth successive win for Martin O'Neill's side and completed a rewarding week after away wins over Manchester United and Sunderland.Carew had a powerful shot blocked by Higginbotham and Dunne headed wide from an Ashley Young corner.Etherington could have brought Stoke level after 75 minutes but lashed his shot wide.Stoke boss Tony Pulis replaced Diao with Ricardo Fuller a minute later while Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell came on for Downing.Sidwell could have wrapped up the points but he shot wide after Carew had set up the chance.
