Martin O'Neill backs James Milner to give his all for Aston Villa

MARTIN O’Neill has backed James Milner to give 100 per cent for Villa and called on the claret and blue faithful to get behind him if his move to Manchester City collapses.

O’Neill’s comments on the Milner saga came as Villa assessed an injury blow to James Collins and revealed they have accepted a bid for Luke Young.

Milner is expected to join his first team colleagues on today’s flight to Portugal ahead of Villa’s weekend involvement in the Guadiana Cup.

And O’Neill could welcome the England midfielder back into the frame after hinting that a potential deal with City had reached stalemate.

“We had a meeting with James on Monday,” said O’Neill.

“I think the word ‘amicable’ was used and that would be quite right.
