MARTIN O’Neill returns to Villa Park tonight admitting the uncertainty about his future which blighted the end of last season will never go away.
With Villa taking on Valencia this evening, O’Neill will be reunited with the claret and blue faithful for the first time since May.
His side closed the previous campaign with defeat to Blackburn amid question marks about the manager’s position.
Chairman Randy Lerner gave O’Neill a resounding vote of confidence in his annual address three days later to quell the speculation.
But, as he prepares for next weekend’s Premier League kick off at home to West Ham, O’Neill accepts the rumours will never truly go away.
Speaking ahead of tonight’s final pre-season friendly, O’Neill said: “I’m never worried about looking for votes of confidence or anything like that.
“I’ve never bothered about it in the past and certainly now, as I get older, I’m less concerned about it than ever.
