Ashley Young: I don't want to leave Aston Villa

Ashley Young

ASHLEY Young has given Villa a welcome eve-of-season boost by reassuring the overburdened claret and blue board that he won’t be angling to join the August exodus.

It was feared Young could add to Randy Lerner and Paul Faulkner’s difficulties by demanding to follow Martin O’Neill out of the club during this transfer window.

But, in a positive meeting between his representatives and the Villa hierarchy yesterday, Young confirmed he would not be agitating for an imminent move.

With Tottenham circling and Liverpool also retaining an interest in the winger, Villa are relieved that Young has pledged his immediate future to the club.

Young has two years left on his contract and although the prospect of an improved and extended deal was discussed, the finer details, including wages, were not.

And the England international is believed to be waiting to learn the identity of Villa’s new manager before he agrees to commit himself beyond the current 2012 term.

Although the 25-year-old’s decision to stay is good news for Villa after a turbulent week, he will review his options in January when a clearer idea of the club’s ambitions emerges.
