Aston Villa: Stewart Downing is still suit-ed to the England dressing room

IN-FORM Villa winger Stewart Downing insists he is still ‘suit-ed’ to playing for England despite his latest Three Lions snub.

Having criticised Fabio Capello for failing to select him for World Cup duty, Downing was also left out of last week’s squad for the friendly win over Hungary.

He failed to make the party for South Africa despite modelling the official England suits in adverts for Marks & Spencers. “I looked nice in that suit,” he said. “I didn’t keep it. I don’t know what that was for but we just did it.

“I didn’t get picked in the squad. If I could have kept the suit I would have been happy.

“It was disappointing but it has gone now. There is a lot of players in our dressing room who think they have a chance of getting back in that squad.”

Downing spoke about his England exclusion at the start of pre-season but is ready to let his feet do the talking after impressing in Villa’s 3-0 opening day win over West Ham.
