Aston Villa: Stewart Downing is still suit-ed to the England dressing room

“I never give up on England,” he added. “I would love to play again. It’s great playing for your country. I will just keep my head down and if he gives me a chance I have got to grab it. I said at the time I was disappointed just the way it was done. He has his prerogative on how it is done and there is no point moaning about it.

“You just get on with it. The only thing I can do is play well for Aston Villa. That is the only way you are going to get in the squad so if he picks me it’s a bonus. If he doesn’t I won’t lose any sleep over it.”
