Aston Villa: Boss challenges players to put things right after Newcastle humiliation.

CARETAKER manager Kevin MacDonald has challenged his Villa players to prove that their Newcastle humiliation was just a "one-off" against Vienna tonight.

MacDonald has spared them the horror of watching a video nasty repeat of the St James’ Park shocker even though he has been studying the DVD.

And the temporary team-picker is just glad that Villa have an instant opportunity to put things right and give the supporters reason to be proud again.

"I am hopeful it is a one off," he said. "It was a very disappointing result.

"Demoralising is probably a little bit strong at this stage of the season. The players were upset and I obviously was very upset.

"But the good thing is that they have got a game now to show a reaction, if they are selected, that will show the crowd what they think of Aston Villa as a football club.

"I think it is important how they play the game tomorrow to try and realise the ambitions of the supporters because the supporters are very proud of the history that they have had in Europe.

"They would be hopeful of us qualifying and would be very disappointed and quite upset if we don’t."
