GERARD Houllier has defended Ian Holloway for fielding a second string Blackpool side for Aston Villa’s dramatic 3-2 win at Villa Park last night.
Houllier was “extremely worried” after Holloway made 10 changes from the draw at Everton with their next match against West Ham in mind.
But the Villa boss insists Blackpool’s understudies proved to be just as difficult opponents as the first XI would have been in a thrilling encounter.
Houllier revealed that he had also rotated his squad on a large scale at previous clubs on occasions and would do so again if needed.
“First of all, when I saw their team line up, I was extremely worried because it happened to me that kind of situation – twice,” said Houllier.
“Once I had to do it myself I remember in France for a cup game when we played a lot of the squad players and we won.
