Aston Villa are sweating on the fitness of Gabby Agbonlahor and Richard Dunne for the trip to Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.

The key duo face late fitness tests ahead of the Ewood Park visit but assistant boss Gary McAllister is confident Ciaran Clark will be available.

The trio have all been nursing minor injuries and were forced to sit out the midweek international fixtures.

Agbonlahor received a surprise call-up to the England squad after he made his first start for two months in last week’s 2-2 draw against Manchester United.

However, he was forced to withdraw because he picked up a few knocks and was reportedly ‘drained’ after the draw with the Red Devils.

Clark also missed the game with a calf injury and subsequently had to pull out of the Republic of Ireland squad for the friendly defeat against Norway.

Dunne also sat out the Ireland clash due to an ongoing knee problem.

McAllister said it was too early to say whether the pair would be available for selection but he is remaining hopeful.

“After only two or three days training, I thought Gabby Agbonlahor did fantastic for 75 or 80 minutes against Manchester United,” said McAllister.
