James Morrison has got Villa in his sights again

James Morrison

JAMES Morrison has a liking for finding the net against Villa and believes his poor goals return is about to change.

The 24-year-old scored Albion’s goals in the 2-1 defeats at The Hawthorns in September 2008 and at Villa Park in January 2009.

Despite his attacking prowess, Morrison has only scored once this season – against Bolton – matching his solitary strike the previous year.

“It’s nice to score any goal and it was special they were against Villa,” the Scotland international said.

“It’s a shame they didn’t count for anything in terms of points. It seems a long time ago now.”

Morrison starred against Gabby Agbonlahor in the April 2004 FA Youth Cup Final, which Middlesbrough won 3-0 at Villa Park in front of over 6,500 supporters before winning the second leg 1-0.

“I’ve got a decent record at Villa Park,” said Morrison.

“I scored two goals in that final. I’ve had a few draws there with Boro and it would be great to win on Saturday.”

Nevertheless, Morrison’s best-ever league goal tally remains the paltry four he got in Albion’s 2007/08 campaign.

“I’d like to have scored more goals by now,” he said.

“I felt I was a bit unlucky against Newcastle (on Sunday), especially with the one that went just past the post.

“But at least I’m getting into those positions and hopefully the goals will come.”

Villa have won just once in 12 games since beating Wolves in September to leave them two points above the drop zone.

But Morrison is wary of being over-confident on a ground where Albion have not won since 1979.
