Aston Villa: Ashley Young puts transfer talk on ice

Ashley Young

ASHLEY Young insists his West Ham performance proves his ongoing commitment to the Villa cause – despite being noncommittal about his future.

Young was in fine form as Gerard Houllier’s recovering team came back from a goal down to clinch a vital victory at Upton Park on Saturday.

The England star atoned for his mistake in the run-up to West Ham’s goal by playing a part in Villa’s equaliser and setting up the dramatic late winner.

Young also terrorised the Hammers defence, competed physically, won his usual share of free-kicks and came close to scoring on several occasions.

The delight on the former Watford winger’s face was clear at the final whistle as Villa celebrated the three points which pushes them closer to safety.

But Young is sticking to his decision to wait until the end of the season before considering whether to sign a new Villa contract or join a higher-ranked rival.

Manchester United are believed to be weighing up a summer move for Young, while Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City have also been linked with him.

The 25-year-old forward has just over a year left of his current deal and if he is not sold in the summer could leave for nothing 12 months later.
