Aston Villa: Ashley Young predicts a victory over Wigan

ASHLEY Young intends to take out his Hawthorns hurt on Wigan tomorrow to fire Villa over the Premier League safety line once and for all.

A win over the Latics will put the claret and blues mathematically safe with two games to go at Arsenal and at home to Liverpool.

And Young reckons Villa will use the pain of last weekend’s derby-day defeat at Albion as a motivating tool against Roberto Martinez’s relegation strugglers.

Young scored one of his eight league and cup goals this season during January’s 2-1 victory over Wigan at the DW Stadium.

“I scored a penalty there earlier in the season,” he recalled. “It is an important game to get us over the line and safe and we know it’s important to put on a performance, especially at home.

“We know it is going to be a tough test, especially as they will be on the front foot and wanting to get the three points away from home with them being down in the mix.

“We have to concentrate on ourselves and build on the performances we’ve had of late in the past few weeks, with the exception of the game against Albion, which was a good performance even though we lost the game.

“I’m confident we can get the three points.”

Young was among a host of Villa players to suffer an off-day, particularly in the second half of the defeat to the Baggies and is keen to set the record straight. “Everyone sees it like that,” he said.

“The way the defeat came about hurt a lot of the boys.

“If you saw the dressing room after the game there was a lot of people who were downbeat and upset by the manner in which we lost.
