WORRIED Luke Young has called on the Villa hierarchy to resolve the uncertainty hanging over the club after a ‘wasted year’.
The left-back reacted to Saturday’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Wigan by wishing manager boss Gerard Houllier a speedy recuperation.
But he also said the Frenchman’s future must be addressed amid fears Villa will lose some of their best players unless they can offer them a stable environment and bright future.
There has been persistent speculation about Ashley Young, who is thought to have attracted the attention of Manchester United, and Stewart Downing’s contract is another issue currently being discussed.
And Young, who also voiced his fears Downing will become a target of bigger clubs, warned the uncertainty over whether, and when, Houllier will return to work is hindering progress at Villa Park.
“It is going to be another season of no-one knowing what’s really going on for a while,” the 31-year-old said.
“I would hope the manager, first and foremost, is healthy and he comes through the trouble he has been having with his heart.
“I think also we need to know what we are doing, who is going to be taking the club forward and who is going to be making the decision on what players stay and what players go and who is going to be in charge for next season.
“Hopefully Gerard is fine and he can carry on but at the minute, let’s be honest, no-one really knows what is going on.
“It is always good to know what is happening next year and who is going to be making decisions and stuff.”And when asked whether he thought the situation was ‘a bit of a mess’ the former England defender agreed and revealed the concerns shared by his team-mates.
“It is. We’ve discussed that ourselves as players, who is going to be making the decisions to keep and sell. No-one knows again.
