Alex McLeish contemplating changes to Villa's leaky defence

ALEX McLeish is contemplating changing Villa’s bumbling backline this weekend after revealing their sloppy defending has left him fuming.

McLeish is getting more and more annoyed by the cheap goals the claret and blues are continuing to concede.

And the Villa boss could shuffle his defensive pack for the Villa Park visit of title-chasing Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

Stephen Warnock’s position is coming under increasing threat after the defender’s worrying loss of form in recent weeks.

Warnock was jeered by a small section of the Villa Park crowd after his own goal in the previous home match against QPR last week.

Eric Lichaj successfully tried out at left-back during the reserves’ 3-0 victory over Fulham on Tuesday, despite being a right-back by trade, while Nathan Baker is also staking a strong claim for a first team return.

It is still thought to be too soon for rookie left-back Enda Stevens to step up to Premier League level following his move from Irish club Shamrock Rovers last month.

With James Collins hoping to return to training today, McLeish could also have another option at centre-back on Sunday.
