Birmingham City: How a chat over a Chinese meal brought players closer to new owners

GARY MCSHEFFREY has said that it’s good to talk ... to Blues’ new powers.

Carson Yeung and his board took the players, Alex McLeish and his Wast Hills staff out for a Chinese meal recently.

The getting-to-know-you session was well received by the squad, McSheffrey revealed.

At many football clubs there is a ‘them and us’ split between training ground and ground.

David Sullivan for one never really mixed during his time – he visited Wast Hills just twice – and some who left the club, like Matthew Upson, were disillusioned with how far down the pecking order players came in terms of their general treatment and facilities.

“The takeover’s not really changed the regime at the training ground or anything,” said McSheffrey.

“They, the new owners, seem quite a lively bunch. We went out and had a dinner with them. Nice people, easily approachable and you can get on with them. So they’re fun to work with really.

“They felt it was important to have that connection,” McSheffrey added.
