Peter Lovenkrands gave Newcastle an early lead in the Barclays Premier League clash with Birmingham at St Andrew's.

Lovenkrands struck after only two minutes when he converted a cross from Jonas Gutierrez for his fourth goal of the campaign.

Birmingham's best effort saw a Nikola Zigic shot saved by Steve Harper.
