Nafti has vital role to play for Birmingham

MEHDI Nafti has been an unsung hero for Birmingham City this season.

And the midfield grafter will have a vital role in tomorrow's derby.

Ian Atkins said: "He has really come into his own. He is doing what he is good at: winning the ball and shifting it, and his disrupting of people really sets the team off. At Middlesbrough, when Blues left him out, they missed him badly.

"I know he's had his critics but he's no different to a Claude Makelele. He also does what he's good at and is important for Chelsea, just sitting in front of the back four breaking things up, filling in when defenders come out wide.

"I think Nafti could be the one to make it difficult for Gareth Barry, who is having an outstanding season.

"He's good when he gets to play on the ball, but getting away from people who close him down isn't his strength.

"I can imagine Nafti going after him."
