Milan Baros was never a transfer target - Alex McLeish

Milan Baros

MILAN Baros was never on Alex McLeish's radar, the Birmingham City boss insisted.

Blues were constantly linked with the former Aston Villa striker during the January transfer window.

But Baros ended up at tonight's opponents Portsmouth on loan from Lyon.

"We were linked with Baros but I can tell you I was never in the market for him at all," stated McLeish. "It was just a rumour. I admire Baros. He is a good player but we weren't in the market for him."

In the summer, McLeish's predecessor Steve Bruce spoke to Sylvain Distin's agent and was keen on taking him from Manchester City on a Bosman free transfer, but wage demands in excess of £60,000-a-week meant he ended up at Fratton Park.
