Terry Westley stays in reserve at Birmingham City

Terry Westley

TERRY Westley could be set to continue in his dual role of Academy and reserve team manager.

After Keith Bertschin resigned to follow Steve Bruce to Wigan Athletic, Westley took over the running of the reserves, aided by Steve Spooner.

Blues have three Premier Reserve League South fixtures left - they play Villa at Walsall on Monday - and then a decision will be made on the post.

"Taking on the reserves, it's an extension of what we were doing in the Academy," said Westley.

"The club now is not big enough to hold three groups in training.

"So we have a first team group of 18 to 20 players if people are fit and then there is the next group.

"We believe our next year's scholars, who are the under-16s - Ashley Sammons, Mitch McPike, Jake Jervis, Jordon Mutch - are very talented and they are all involved in reserve team football.

"So I've just taken what we've been doing onto the pitch and with the help of Steve Spooner, the youth team coach, that gap is being filled.

"Whether I carry on [as reserves manager] I think it's a decision the manager will call.

"But at the moment I think he's quite pleased with how it's going."
