Mauro Zarate must stay - Liam Ridgewell

LIAM Ridgewell has urged Blues to pull out all the stops to re-sign Mauro Zarate.

The loanee, from Qatar side Al-Sadd, is priced at around £20 million.

Managing director Karren Brady's recent response to the question of a permanent transfer was a succinct 'no chance'.

But another loan, for a season, has been mooted.

"I hope he can stop here," said Ridgewell, Blues stand-in captain. "We'd like to keep him.

"You can see when a great player is emerging. He has got a good touch and good skill and I am sure he will get even better."

Manager Alex McLeish said Zarate, scorer of his fourth goal in as many games on Saturday, wouldn't look out of place in a top four Premier League side.

But he argued: "If he went to a top four club now, his playing time would be limited."
