Thanks for the welcome, Roy Aitken tells Birmingham City fans

ROY Aitken has praised Blues fans for the way they have accepted him as one of their own.

As they did with goalkeeper coach Nigel Spink before him, a man deemed a Villa legend, it was a warm not frosty welcome for one of Alex McLeish’s assistants in November.

“I hoped it wouldn’t be anything different than I expected it to be, and it hasn’t been,” said Aitken, who to this day remains the last Aberdeen manager to win a trophy.

“The fans have been great and I think our supporters appreciate honesty, hard work, integrity and everything that goes with it

“Hopefully that’s what Alex, Andy Watson and I bring and ask for and it doesn’t matter what background you have - whether I was at Villa or not - they are going to get 100 per cent out of us and me.

“That side of it, I have been well received. I can’t ask for anything more.”
