Maik Taylor won't take his eye off the ball for Birmingham City

MAIK Taylor has insisted he remains focused on Blues' vital last game of the season against Blackburn Rovers.

It is understood Liverpool are interested in signing him on a Bosman free transfer, should Blues not renew his contract.

And other clubs are monitoring the 36-year-old's situation.

Liverpool are seeking an experienced goalkeeper as cover for Pepe Reina. They have Charles Itandje but he is viewed very much as a work in progress, while Scott Carson seems set to exit.

Northern Ireland international Taylor knows Blues manager Alex McLeish, like Steve Bruce before him, is searching for a long-term replacement.

Colin Doyle, who replaced Taylor last season in the Championship only to lose his place after a difficult start to the Premier League campaign, remains a contender but at 22-years-of-age a more battle-hardened goalkeeper might be preferred.

New goalkeeper coach Dave Watson has been assessing all the options, and the present staff, for McLeish.

Taylor's deal is due to expire in June and Blues have held back on holding serious talks until they know what division they end up in for next season.

Taylor said: "I don't know anything about it [Liverpool] but obviously I'm out of contract and would like my future sorted. But we have a big game on Sunday and that is the only thing on my mind right now."

McLeish has grand plans to shake up his squad this summer but could well be hamstrung if Blues are relegated on Sunday.

I understand he has been told by the board that he does not have to sell his best players if Blues return to the Championship, and he has made it clear to the directors that it is vitally important that he holds on to his top talent.

*Blues' clash against Rovers will be one of three games screened live by Sky Sports on Sunday as the Premier League reaches a make-or-break climax at both ends of the table.
