Alex McLeish: We can re-boot Blues for success

Alex McLeish

ALEX McLeish has told the Blues board that it’s within their realm to re-boot Blues for success.

Blues could be relegated for the second time in three years on Sunday.

But the manager said it didn’t need to be like that, a tale of continual Premier League woe, in the future.

He said he wanted his and the board’s ambitions to marry.

“It’s not overnight to build a team,” he said. “I don’t think five months is a chance to build your own team.

“Hopefully these lads who are going into battle on Sunday can come on the next part of the journey and we can add more players to the squad.

“I’ve said we’re inexperienced, but we’re also a very small squad. It’s not the biggest numbers wise.

“But we can progress if we can stay in the Premier League.

“And regardless of what happens on Sunday, we have still got to be ambitious.

“I have got a vision for the club and I think that David Sullivan, David and Ralph Gold and Karren Brady have got the power to inspire the fans and inspire Birmingham City.

“I am sure they want to be successful too.

“I am confident in my ability, and the people around me, to help establish us at this level, with them sharing that same vision.”

And should Blues go down? “It won’t be the end of the world; it could be the beginning.

“We can  be negative, or we can do something about it and come back even stronger.

“But I am focused on another outcome on Sunday,” said McLeish.
