Birmingham City fans anger with board - Birmingham Mail survey

David Sullivan and David Gold.

BLUES fans’ dissatisfaction with the board of directors has become much more marked over the past year.

Our exclusive survey shows the strength of feeling among the St Andrew’s support, apparent during the on-pitch protests the day Blues were relegated, shows no sign of abating.

An overwhelming 83 per cent of fans who took part in the study said they didn’t believe the club was ambitious enough.

To the question ‘does the board have your backing?’ 57.3 per cent said ‘no’, a significant shift compared to the previous year.

More than 70 per cent said they were not happy with the way Blues are being run.

At the season’s end, co-owner David Sullivan wondered aloud why Blues’ fans were so disgruntled and few season tickets sold.

He was inundated with replies and although the club have addressed certain issues, it is clear they have much to do to totally convince the disillusioned.

Blues’ fans have complained for a while about prices, and our survey shows they believe season tickets (91.9 per cent) and match-day tickets (85.9 per cent) cost too much.

Blues’ treatment of fans was judged to be ‘poor’ – 60.8 per cent – up 24 per cent.

As for Alex McLeish, Blues’ fans feel he is the right man for the job, although the jury is still out for some, 32.4 per cent.

He achieves a ‘good’ rating for his transfer dealings, compared to Steve Bruce’s ‘average’ 12 months ago.

Blues’ fans want him to strengthen the defence – 91.9 per cent – but they think the team will either gain automatic promotion, or challenge through the play-offs.

Kevin Phillips was the signing Blues’ fans hoped for most, and the majority quizzed said between £10million-£15million needed to be spent on players before the Championship kicks off.
