Gutsy Birmingham City show is praised by Alex McLeish
BLUES players’ gutsy determination was praised by Alex McLeish after the draw at Norwich City.
“We struggled in the first half and scored against the run of play,” said the manager. “But you can never fault our lads for their desire and determination and it’s because we kept plugging away that we got the goal.
“I was looking for a reaction after last Tuesday (the Carling Cup defeat at Southampton) and I thought it was a positive response.
“The players worked hard and we looked more compact.
“Norwich were on top of the first half but the second half was much, much better for us.
“We were able to bring Kevin Phillips into play and Marcus Bent did well when he came on.
“We were not at our best, I think we have more quality to find,” McLeish concluded. “It would be nice to have a 100 per cent record but we have over 20 more cup ties away from home.
“We are a scalp for teams and players should take that as a compliment, but we must adjust very quickly because face a load of challenges like this.”
