Birmingham City rule out Ulises de la Cruz

Ulises de la Cruz

BLUES will not be following up their interest in former Villa defender Ulises de la Cruz.

The 34-year-old is training with Coventry City after a short stint at Wast Hills.

The Sky Blues are keen to secure cover with Stephen Wright out with an Achilles injury.

Blues boss Alex McLeish gave de la Cruz his break in British football when he was at Hibernian.

De La Cruz, who can play in either full-back position or midfield, was released by Reading in the summer and rejected a deal from Watford following a trial.

McLeish last night ran the rule over potential loan signing Kevin-Prince Boateng, who was at Villa Park playing for Spurs reserves.

The midfielder couldn’t help his side to victory, however, Villa won 1-0.

Tonight Blues reserves take on Manchester United at St Andrew’s in a friendly (7pm).
